My Review:  I just finished Threads of Hope and it left we with such a heart-warming feeling that I can't help but smile a little as I write this post.  This book was another in the Quilts of Love series, this time the main characters are a journalist named Nina who gets assigned to cover an gala benefit for the AIDS Memorial and Greg a single dad of a HIV-positive adopted daughter.  Nina and Greg's paths had crossed before in high school and Nina is still holding onto a grudge against Greg.  This story is a great one about bitterness, forgiveness, and love that I really enjoyed and is a great addition to the Quilts of Love series.

A Strand of Deception~ by Robin Caroll

My Review:  I actually just received this book in the mail yesterday so I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to get a review done for the CFBA tour but luckily today was a snow day.  So since my work schedule was lighter than usual, today was the perfect cozy day to curl up with a good book and that is just what I did.  A Strand of Deception is a mystery suspense novel that is actually part of Robin Caroll's series called Justice Seekers.  I had not read the other books in this series but the novel definitely stands on its own.  I am always a big fan of the mystery suspense genre and thought this book  was a great read.  I could not guess what the who was responsible for the main crime (something that is vital for me when reading a mystery), and when I got around to the conclusion I was surprised.  I thought that the forensic explanations in the case were really interesting, you don't get too bogged down in the terminology, and there was also a romance in there as well.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of mysteries and I look forward to going back and reading the other books in this series.

The Icecutter's Daughter~ by Tracie Peterson

My Review:  One of the many things I love about Christian Fiction is that often the books, while also being entertaining stories, have nuggets of spiritual truths that make you examine your life and ask yourself some questions about your own heart.  The Icecutter's Daughter did that for me.  There were some spiritual lessons on judging others and truly trusting God that I was convicted and encouraged by.  It is funny how that comes hand in hand sometimes.  I feel convicted because I am not exhibiting something in my life or I am holding on to things that don't glorify God but then I am also encouraged that by the grace of God I don't have to stay where I am.

This book was a great engaging story that had good lessons and a romance that will make you smile.  Enjoy!

My review:  This is the second book I have read from the Quilts of Love series.  This story is about Flora Saferight and Bruce Milikan, two Quakers who are charged with a mission to take a pregnant slave couple on the underground railroad.  Flora was chosen for her midwife skills and Bruce for his expertise in underground railroad missions.  Though they have not gotten along in the past the journey they go on requires them to rely on God and one another.  This changes their relationship forever.

I enjoyed this book.  The risks that were taken and the love that was shown through Flora and Bruce to the couple they never met was a testament to allowing God's love to shine through you.

Doctor To The Rescue~ by Cheryl Wyatt

My Review:  Doctor To The Rescue is a cute romantic read especially for this time of year.  It is somewhat light-hearted with a dose of realism in the past circumstances that the characters had to deal with.  It is a story about two people, Ian Shupe and Bri Landis, who are dealing with the painful aftermath of their previous relationships.  Ian finds himself as a single dad trying to balance working as a doctor and raising his daughter and Bri ends up watching his daughter in exchange for some help with renovations at her lodge.  As they get to know each other they have to decide whether or not they can move on from the past and embrace the blessings God has put in their lives.  I definitely became invested in the story and enjoyed reading this book so you should check it out for yourself.  To learn more about the book read the official description below.

My Review:  As those of you who have read some of the other reviews on my blog can probably tell, I am a sucker for a sweet romance.  A Wild Goose Chase Christmas is a book that fits the bill.  It is a cute, heartwarming story about a family, love, and discovering where true treasure really lies.  This is a perfect feel-good read for you to pick up to read over the Christmas break and if you are flying somewhere it will make a good travel book as well.  I caution you though if you are traveling far and are a faster reader, like me, you may need to bring another book since you can probably gobble this one up quickly.  Enjoy :)

My Review:  A Change of Fortune is a fun historical romance about a woman, Lady Eliza Sumner, who travels to America looking for the man that stole her family fortune.  I thought the book had a great mix of humor, romance, charming heroes, and spunky heroines.  If you enjoy historical romance novels you should definitely give this book a read.

She met her future husband, Al, a few months after taking this job and eight months later, they were married. After moving into management at another department store and working that for a few years, the company went out of business and Jen decided she’d had enough. One year later her son was born and Jen hung up her heels for good and concentrated on being a mom.

She began dabbling in writing when her son, then in elementary school, said he liked her made up stories as much as those in his books. It was then that she fired up the computer and never looked back.

Courting Cate~ by Leslie Gould

My Review:  Typically I do not gravitate towards Amish novels, but when I read the description of this book and saw that it was a play off of Taming of the Shrew, which is one of my favorite Shakespeare comedies, I thought I would give it a chance.  I am so glad that I did.  This was a great read.  I loved the development of the romance between Pete and Cate and I really felt the pain Cate had experienced and how that colored the way she handled situations.  My favorite part of the book was what ends up "taming" Cate and that deviation from the original story was so awesome, but I will leave it to you to read the book and find it out for yourself.

Even though I knew I wanted to write fiction by the time I was in the sixth grade, as I grew older I pursued other things instead, such as majoring in history and communications, and then working as a museum curator, then a public relations specialist, and finally as a magazine editor. Once I finally started writing fiction, it was another ten years until I sold my first novel. By that time I’d been married for nearly 20 years and had four children of my own to read to.

In the decade since my first contract I’ve written fifteen books, from Beyond the Blue, a story about international adoption set in Vietnam, to Courting Cate, a retelling of Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” set in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. My Review:  I always look forward to reading a book by Kristen Heitzmann because in all of her books she is able to write novels that completely draw you in and the same holds true for her latest book The Breath of Dawn.  This book is a romantic suspense with great characters and an interesting layering of stories that will grab your attention and be very hard to put down.  For the official description read below.

From the time my dad taught me to read at sit-on-the-floor school when I was four—launching me past kindergarten into 1st grade—I have loved learning and expressing what I know through art, music, and especially writing. Education came easily, and I grew accustomed to having my work read and displayed. But breaking out of the family mold, I left college to marry my husband Jim (celebrating our 29th this year.) My Review:  I must say I was completely surprised by this book.  It began with a snapshot into the lives of several residents in Ralston with Abigail, a seemingly shallow salon owner, at the center.  There was an introduction into each of the resident’s stories that while entertaining was not something that left me hungering for more and then the storm hits.  From the moment the storm begins to form the book had me hooked.  The description of people’s fears, reactions, internal turmoil, and the descriptions of the aftermath was so gripping that I felt like I had been through this tragedy with the characters.  I found myself holding my breath as they looked for their loved ones and tried to put their lives back together.   I thought this book was an amazing testimony to the sovereignty of God and how even through the darkest of circumstances He provides us with the hope that can see us through.  I highly recommend this book.

Against the Tide~ by Elizabeth Camden

 My Review: Against the Tide is a romantic adventure that tells the story of Lydia Pallas.  Lydia grew up with a childhood that was not blessed with advantages or wealth, but nevertheless when she is offered a position as a translator for the U S Navy she can finally have a life that provides her with the security and stability she craves.  Enter Alexander Banebrige.  Alexander is a mysterious man whose live is consumed with the quest to end the opium trade.  Lydia and Bane’s (Alexander) paths cross when he needs a translator’s services and through this they are both drawn into a dangerous mission that requires Lydia to take a huge risk.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.  It was very engaging from the first page and I really appreciated the development of the main characters Lydia and Bane.  They were complex people with struggles and imperfections and their story was really touching.  In addition to the romance part of the story it also has elements of mystery and suspense.  This book is a great historical romantic adventure read (if that is a genre) that you will definitely enjoy.

Full Disclosure~ by Dee Henderson

My Review: Full Disclosure is a Christian fiction romance/suspense novel written about two cop’s, Ann Silver and Paul Falcon, whose lives intersect when Ann brings a case to Paul which serves as a lead for one of his investigations.  Paul’s interest in Ann is peaked by this brief meeting and as he decides to get to know her, he realizes that this there is a lot more to Ann than her job as Midwest Homicide Investigator and the more he finds out the more interested he becomes.

I thought this was an excellent read.  I have always enjoyed romantic suspense novels that really provide a great mystery and this book fit the bill.  The cases that the characters are involved in are layered and complex and keep you guessing as to what will happen next.  I also really enjoyed Ann and Paul’s relationship.  It was a great story about two people who have lived separate lives for so long trying to see if they could have a future together.  I really got a lot from seeing how their relationship developed and reading about Ann’s relationship with God made me long for a closer relationship than I have now.

I highly recommend this book.  It is an great escape from your everyday and is a crime mystery that while suspenseful and attention grabbing, will not give you nightmares.  ~Enjoy
